Hitachi Blu-ray burner connects directly to Camcorder

Hitachi has announced a Blu-ray burner that you can connect directly to your camcorder to burn the content that is on the camcorder to a Blu-ray disc. For this the camcorder has to feature an eSATA port. The Blu-ray burner, model DZ-WR90, plugs directly into the camcorder and automatically creates a copy of your selected content to the disc.

Hitachi claims that the Blu-ray disc will fit around three hours of full 1920 × 1080 footage and burn the Blu-ray disc in about 1.5hrs; alternatively, you can fit on up to six hours in 1440 × 1080 resolution. A DVD, meanwhile, can store up to one hour of 720 × 480 footage.

It is expected that the drive will become available somewhere in July but any pricing information has not been announced. Unfortunately Hitachi has also not made clear if you are able to use the drive with a computer as well...
