Hitachi announces 1TB HDD with 3 platters

Hitachi has developed a new version of their 1TB hard disk drive and the product will be introduced later this month costing $239. In January 2007 Hitachi came with the first 1TB HDD before innovating to the successor Deskstar 7K1000.B. The new HDD has a 7200rpm-drive a capacity of 1TB and a cachebuffer of 32MB.

These features are exactly the same as its predecessor but this time Hitachi developed the same with only three platters, instead of five. The Hitachi 7K1000.B is an HDD that delivers a reliable, eco-friendly and silent solution all by lowering the amount of platters.

Hitachi also says that the 7K1000.B shortens the seeking times, due to the three platters.
