How far along is fully decrypting HD-DVD and Blu-ray content?

The title to this source article already seems to indicate both "HD-DVD and Blu-ray as obsolete," while in its first paragraph it states that the "recent release of software...is the first step toward making the encryption...obsolete."

The final statement in the first paragraph is certainly true that it is a "first step," since while we are seeing some HD-DVD titles on Bitorrent trackers, we have not seen any full-fledged software yet created to fully decrypt HD-DVD titles to allow backups.  While it is logical to assume something will be created to decrypt Blu-ray titles, so far HD-DVD is the only format to see any 'work' in this arena.  The only time the encryption for both will be considered 'obsolete' is when both formats can be backed up with equal ease.  Had the source article provided some estimate as to when users could expect to see a program that easily handles decrypting HD-DVD content automatically, as well as how far behind one might see a standardized decryption program for Blu-ray, this would have been an interesting side note.  For the time being, we are left to wonder how long it will be before users see such programs.
