Increase the compatibility of NEC ND-2510 burned double layer discs

Thanks to the guys at our NEC Forum it's now possible to increase the compatibility of double layer discs that have been burned with a NEC ND-2510 drive. This drive is very popular and many of our forum users have also converted their NEC ND-2500 drives to this newer model that is based on the same hardware (Warning : does not work on every drive and voids guarantee!).

Other brands such as BenQ and Philips already officially support bitsetting for their double layer drives to enhance compatibility. In short the bitsetting fools the DVD player and makes it think the double layer DVD recordable is a DVD-ROM disc. This is only possible on DVD+R discs (due to the manufacturing differences with DVD-R) and is also used on single layer discs to increase compatibility with DVD players.

In this post you can download an utility that has been offered by a NEC support employee and made available by one of our forum users. In case the download is no longer working or you need support on this then please visit our NEC Forum and read the FAQ over there.

GristyMcFistyAlternatively I think you can load Herries 107v2B5 firmware onto the drive, which'll allow Bit Setting amongst other facilities... Try here... http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=25904&highlight=107v2B5+Herrie

Uh Gristy! I Thought we settled this in the Dual-Layer thread in the Forum. No need to increase anything that no one is buying or are they? and what is this talk about increasing Combatibility you mean if you buy a drive you are only getting a brand's disc THAT BLOWS! We did not have such problems with VCR's And we sure should not with DVD.
