Japan: Blu-ray crushes HD DVD

Japanese consumers have shown their interest in the high definiton format. New figures indicate a win by Sony in Japan. A major study of 2300 electronic stores found that more consumers are buying the next-generation recorders.

Sony's Blu-ray recorders were the most popular, followed by the Blu-ray supporters Panasonic and Sharp. The study shows that Toshiba enjoys four percent of sales. This shows that Blu-ray is extremely popular and that Toshiba's HD DVD has a very small chance of winning in Japan.

An important detail of the study is that it was targeted at living-room recorders, and that means PS3 sales were excluded from the research.

Another important detail is Blu has been in Japan for ages, long before NA blue war started. I think toshiba need to licence out to other manufacturers as many people have their brand preferences.

DeadManAh licensing. Such an antiquated idea. If they had any sense they would allow 'free' licensing for anyone as long as they stick to spec. But like Sony Toshiba want to have their cake and eat it.

At least Toshiba is making a decent tasting cake. Sony has burned people so many times yet you all keep going back. I wonder if you're just gluttons for punishment. The only reason Spec 2.0 is coming is because HD-DVD already offers those features. Tell SONY their expensive shit is for the birds and buy HD-DVD. supergrin
