According to BetaNews, the lack of HDi (formerly iHD) support on the BH100 hybrid HD DVD/Blu-ray disc player may not be the only reason why the player is not able to be approved to have the official HD DVD logo. A spokesperson for LG Electronics mentioned that the player would need to also feature certain network and storage features, such as the ability to save scene bookmarks, picture-in-picture support, download and display trailers and so on for HD DVD approval. This is also due to HD DVD logo guaranteeing that these hardware features are present and can be utilised.
While this logo restriction may limit how much LG can associate the BD100 with HD DVD, this restriction may not apply to retailers, such as mention that the BH100 is HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc format compatible. Despite the lack of HDi support, the player features its own software based menu to allow direct access to titles and chapters on the disc. The player will play HD DVD content up to full HD, so the lack of these HD DVD features will not result in sacrificed picture or sound quality. However, the lack of HDi driven menus may make it more difficult to play the bonus content if it is unclear what each title and chapter contains.
Finally, the BH100 player only supports HDMI 1.2 output, which means that the player is not able to support Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio output to compatible HDMI 1.3 amplifiers that support these formats.
