LG is set to launch its latest Super Multi Blue hybrid drive later this quarter, the GGC-H20LI, which is capable of reading back both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs, according to this DigiTimes report. It is unknown at this time what speeds the drive is capable of reading either disc format at, but going by the channel register, it can write to both CD and DVD media, including LightScribe direct disc labelling. While LG is a member of the BD Association, it has taken on the HD DVD format as a business strategy from the time it came up with its first hybrid drives.
LG is also getting ready to launch a new Blu-ray writer, the GGW-H20LI, which will feature an enhanced write speed of 6x for BD-R discs. Like the GGC-H20LI, this drive can also write to CD and DVD media and features LightScribe direct disc labelling.
The GGW-H20LI and the GGC-H20LI are expected to price around $499 and $399 respectively. The GGW-H20LI is also expected to hit the market towards later in this quarter.
