On Yahoo I found the press release of Liquid Audio. They have developed a Digital Music Subscription Service and previewed it at Jupiter Plug-in, New York.
The service has the following features that should attract artists, record labels and customers:
Stream and download music content on demand. The subscription system enables the retail partner to choose between content streaming,
downloading or a combination of both.
A la carte single and album downloads (one click). The subscription system supports both individual song and full album downloads at the click of a button.
All tracks professionally encoded with CD quality audio. Unlike unpredictable peer-to-peer file sharing systems Liquid Tracks are guaranteed to be of the highest quality available.
Instant upgrades to full ownership rights. Users can instantly upgrade selected songs to permanent playback with rights to export to portable devices and CD burners.
Copyright compliant file and playlist sharing. Users can easily share their favorite songs and playlists with friends and family while still maintaining compliance with current copyright laws.
Total branding for channel partner (player with integrated web pages). Like other Liquid Audio products, our channel partners have complete control over branding and merchandising
Well if these are the arguments to let us pay for music, they will need really really low prices....
