Getting people to connect a PC to the TV has been a very slow process, the concept just has not been catching on. But now, at least according to this one study, things are about to change! The belief is that efforts from Microsoft, Intel and Apple, will cause the PC media server market alone to jump from $3.7 billion in 2006 to $44.8 billion by 2011 as mainstream PCs become fully functional media servers.
Having already made the leap at my house, I can say that at least most of the technology is here and it's ready to go. With the right programs and hardware, you can pretty much make the PC transparent in the process of viewing movies or TV.
| "With the arrival of faster in-home digital networking technologies such as MoCA, an industry-accepted framework for networked digital media distribution in DLNA, and the increase in both pay-TV and Internet content moving over in-home networks, the home media server is becoming a key beachhead in the digital home," says principal analyst Michael Wolf.
