Microsoft piracy letter angers partners - It's just a warning

Apparently Microsoft is sending out letters to their own resellers, that implicates that the company is not really sure about if their business is legitimate. Altough the software giant does not really points its finger to the resellers, the company states that it understands that it could be easier for the companies to sell unlicensed versions of Microsofts software.

The letter has not been well received, as resellers feel attacked by the company and the controversial letter has been criticised as lacking subtlety by resellers which are angry that the letter implied a possible involvement in selling unlicensed software.

The opening paragraphs of the letter read: "Recently you have been buying fewer copies of Microsoft Office Professional from authorised Microsoft original equipment manufacturer distributors. "We understand that competition for business is intense and that it is getting even tougher. "Some system builders try to undercut their competitors by selling and installing copies of [software], making the situation worse for those selling licensed Microsoft software."

Mike Lawrence, managing director at reseller Bentpenny, said that the correspondence had left him fuming. "We have never sold any illegal software and [the letter] implies that a reduction in orders is the result of illegal copies being sold when it is actually because the market is at saturation," he explained.

Caroline Smith, marketing programmes manager of the UK Compliance Group at Microsoft, claimed that there was never any intention of accusing anyone of wrongdoing. She described it as an important "buyer beware" message aimed at raising awareness of the problem of high quality counterfeit products being sold in the channel.

Altough the company has booked very strong profits, is one of the largest companies on planet earth and it's boss is the richest man on the world, the company is still sending letters like this. Read the entire article here.

He has more money then he'll ever, ever be able to use, and the company makes profits, in the billions. Not revenue but profits. If I owned a company and after I paid myself, and my employees enough to a live a happy comfortable life, and only had one dollar as a profit to show for it. I would be doing a freaking Irish jig.

or it could be that resellers are selling more linux boxes and even if they are selling MS systems, who says they can't install other software that does the same thing like star office for less money to the consumer?
