Mitsubishi unveils Blu-ray recorders with AVC DVD recording

One drawback people may think of Blu-ray recorders is that they require expensive Blu-ray media.  HD PVR’s also have a drawback in that their capacity is limited by the size of the hard disk, much more so than standard definition.  To overcome these issues, Mitsubishi Electric has released two new Blu-ray recorders that allow one to record AVC to DVD, thus doing away with the need for expensive Blu-ray discs.  Obviously a DVD will not hold as much as a Blu-ray disc can, but unless one plans recording hours of recording on a single disc or at a very high bitrate, recordable DVD should be sufficient.

According to the Akihabara source, the Mitsubishi Blu-ray recorders come in the models DVR-BZ200 which has a 500GB HDD capacity and the DVR-BZ100 which has a 250GB HDD capacity.  Both allow AVC recording to DVD and feature a touch-screen colour LCD remote.  At this time, little other info is available apart from in Mitsubishi's Japanese PDF press release.
