jdub used our news submit to tell us that NewEgg has started selling the Nec 3520A which is the successor to the Nec 3500A. The Drive specs have hardly changed apart from the RW rewriting speeds. The Plus +RW format can now be written at 8x and the Minus -RW format can be written at 6x. Apart from those changes to the RW writing speeds the drive looks and has the same specifications as the previous Nec 3500 Drive. CDfreaks have already looked at the upraded RW writing speed of the drive and the media results can be found in the Nec forum. DVD+RW @ 8x and DVD-RW @ 6x results.

Im suprised Nec didnt try to get the minus -RW format to write at 8x or upgrade the Dual layer writing speed to 5 or 6x. They should have also tried to include the -R Dual Layer capability now that the format has been approved.

wonder if there will be similar firmware shenanigans to the effect of the 3500 and 3520 being identical.
