Napster shut-down on Friday

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A federal judge shut down Napster Inc.'s Internet clearinghouse on Wednesday, saying the company that revolutionized music distribution was encouraging "wholesale infringing'' against recording industry copyrights and would likely lose at trial. U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel noted that 70 million people are expected to be using Napster by year's end unless the service is halted... The injunction will go into effect at midnight Friday, after the nation's largest record producers post a $5 million bond against any financial losses Napster suffers from being shut down pending trial. Napster's attorney, David Boies, said the San Mateo, Calif.-based company will appeal. "I think that a settlement, frankly, is unlikely,'' Boies said. |

I think it is really bull shit. I guess they will close every FTP site. MIRC, all of them. The Napster just had the format to search for mp3. It will always be around. MP3 has a compression of 10:1 over waves. That is why is popular. Its fast and easy. Faster connections make it even easier and quicker. The US has got to stop. Napster never gave me an mp3.
Guys im not sure but if napster shuts down then won't it mean no authentication and so not being able to connect to even the free servers?
