One million of Blu-ray discs sold
According to a news published at DigiTimes, Blu-ray disc has become the first high definition format to sell more than one million discs.
Based on results of a survey by Home Media Research (HMR), nearly three out of every four high-definition movies sold in March were on Blu-ray Disc.
So, is it really Blu-ray the winner?

I wander if they really sold or "destributed" with PS3 etc ...

More Sony BS propaganda. They must be feeling the heat from consumers' non-interest in either new format and need to mollify their stockholders -- seeing as Sony's biz is bleeding profits.

Everyone who's waiting is missing out! Here's the deal, if the format war goes on for a few years, thats a few years of content you'll miss out on. Go with what is supported most, with the most future proof technology, Blu-ray.
Lord of the rings, extended edition, can ONLY fit on blu-ray. you may not want that movie, but you couldn't even get it on a single disc on hd dvd... simply put, hd dvd was over before it began.
You want star wars? only on blu-ray
The only movies you can't get are Universal titles... so.... if you MUST have universal in your library RIGHT NOW, then you have to choose HD DVD, but if want EVERYTHING else that will go high def, blu-ray will have it.

I am definitely not missing out as i'm waiting for a fast HD drive and affordable media.
Most likely it will be Blu coz then I can backup both hddvd and bluray titles on 25gig blanks. But first of course I will get a full HD plasma tv, or otherwise the game isnt worth candles.

DVD is fine with me. HDef is a crock and not worth getting excited about.

That's because $ony is the sum of all evil in the world. Plus, we like to support the underdog. Oh, and we hate $ony. Did I already mention that?
@ DeadMan
You've hit the nail on the head. I think I'd rather buy an x264 player than HD DVD or Blu-ray. I have an x264 copy of "Superman Returns" (720p) and it's way better than DVD. So, let's recap the plan.
1) Buy an x264 player
2) Rip a movie from HD DVD/Blu-ray disc
3) Convert to x264 (720p or 1080p)
4) Burn onto SL DVD (25 cents) or DL DVD (a buck)
5) Enjoy the feeling of watching a DRM-free movie in hi-def
Who's with me? C'mon, let's take a vote.

These comments are funny. Whenever there's a positive article for Sony/Blu-Ray it's always: "Bah, just Sony BS propaganda.". On the other hand, HD-DVD positive news are always taken as gospel. Go figure.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with something. How and where do you get a x264 player? And I thought in order to rip a HD DVD/Blu Ray disc, you needed to have one of these players...I'm sure I'm wrong, but could any of you shed some light on this for me?
Thanks!

BluRay the winnder? Wait until the sub $200 HD-DVD players hit the market. The war is just barely getting started. Even if it wasn't for the DRM, the hardware and movie prices are ridiculous. A lot of DVDs are finally getting more reasonable with new releases available on sale for under $15 and a lot of titles for $10 or less.

@DukeNukem:
I suppose an HD movie is already encoded in .264, vc1 or another flavour, well maybe except sony's Mpeg2
So if u further compress it u will only loose quality. We will probably see DVD players with x.264 support but they will likely play a standard dvd resolution only with an upconvert option. Any way lets wait another year and buy a chinese blu-ray for a 100 bucks plus a writer for another hundred and everybody will be all set. From that poinnt on Hdef will become increasingly popular

@ doveplay
Go to http://x264.nl/. You just need the XBOX 360's HD DVD drive. It's $200 and you get a "free" movie. You'll need some drivers in order for WinXP to see the drive (http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2006/11/8303/). Then get the software to rip it (AnyDVD HD).
@ FidelC
I dunno. I have a copy of "Superman Returns" in x264 (720p) and it's just 7.2 GB in size. The quality blows DVD out of the water. I watch it on my 20" Samsung LCD. You can offer me a Blu-ray player for a dollar and I'd still take a baseball bat to it. Dentman42 is right, this war is just getting started.
BTW, what the hell is wrong with the message database?!?
