CDRlabs has the joy of the world wide exlcusive review of Plextor's latest drive, the PX-320A 20/10/40-12A CD-RW/DVD-ROM. This drive is Plextor's first drive that besides writing and reading CD-R's, is also able to read DVD discs.
The drive is able to write CD-R's at 20 speed, rewrite CD-RW's at 10 speed, and read them back at a maximum of 40 speed. The drive is able to reach 12 speed when reading a DVD. Ofcourse the main questions raises, how does the drive perform ? Well read the entire review here. Here are the highs and lows:
Highs:
First drive from Plextor to read DVD's!
Features Plextor's new VariRec technology.
Very good transfer rates for all types of media.
The drive has a 2MB buffer and BURN-Proof to prevent coasters.
Excellent DAE performance.
Low CPU usage when reading CD's.
Features Plextor's PoweRec II technology.
Supports UDMA 33.
Can read DVD-R and DVD-RW discs.
Includes both Easy CD Creator and SimpliCD.
Lows:
Reads movie DVD's at only 2x.
Seek times are higher than other drives.
The software supplied by Plextor America does not currently support VariRec. Support is coming soon!
Of course the drive also features Plextor's main technologies such as Burnproof, PoweRec II and VariRec.
Notice that this review unit has been supplied by Plextor America and that's why it comes with Roxio Easy CD Creator. European customers can enjoy Ahead's Nero Burning Rom and PlexTools. Again a good review by the guys at CDRlabs !
