Plextor Europe announces PX-740A, mid-market dual-layer DVD recorder

Plextor Europe has send out a press release, announcing the Plextor PX-740A DVD recorder. This drive is a DVD recorder and CD burner and writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at 16x,  8x DVD+R DL & 4x DVD-R DL,  8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW. Additionally, the PX-740A can write and read CD's at 48x and re-write CD's at 32x. However the drive is different from other Plextor 16x DVD recorders:

Plextor today announces the launch of the PX-740A, an internal E-IDE, dual-layer, DVD and CD re-writer drive. Ideal for the cost-conscious buyer who doesn't want to comprise on quality or speed. Offering fast writing speeds of up to 16x, the drive is ideal for everyday home and small business users, who don't require the extra professional features offered with Plextor's flagship PX-716A dual-layer drive.

Still, the drive comes with Plextools professional, buffer underrun protection technology, DVD±VR and users will have the capability of chosing between a white or black bezel. It does not seem to have features such as GigaRec, VariRec and SecuRec. The drive will become available from June 2005, no pricing information was given.

More information can be found on the Plextor website. Discuss this new drive in our Plextor Forum.

No more 8Mb buffer. :(
GigaRec we can understand to be taken off if we get a middle market drive. But VariRec and SecuRec its more about quality, so are these techniques useful or not, quality wise?
If not, its ok but we have to ask why they wwere sold before as important?
If they are really useful, we don't get a middle market product...we get lower quality, not just facilities, or am I wrong?
It seems to be a Benq 1640-OEM
It IS a Benq OEM!!!
