Plextor Europe has announced two new
external DVD burners,
the PX-716UFL and the PX-740UF. Both drives offer similar speeds but are aimed
at different markets. The PX-716UFL is Plextor's first external slot
loading drive
(which supports both 12cm and 8cm discs) and supports all of Plextor's advanced
technologies such as Intelligent Recording, GigaRec (record up to 1GB of data to
a standard 99 minute CD-R), SecuRec (create password protected CD-Rs),
VariRec (adjustable laser power), SilentMode (adjust the drive's rotation speed
and tray speed) and Q-Check (perform quality tests with CD and DVD based
media).
Plextor's PX-740UF external DVD recorder is aimed at the "cost-conscious buyer who does not want to compromise on speed". The PX-740UF offers up to 16X DVD±R writing, up to 8X DVD+R-DL writing (which, interestingly enough, is faster than the PX-716UFL's DVD+R-DL speed of 6X) and up to 4X DVD-R-DL writing.
