Plextor announces a range of external hard disk drives using USB and eSATA interfaces (Press Release)

Plextor has decided to launch its new generation of external hard disk drives now because more and more people are using the eSATA interface on their PCs.

Plextor Europe announces the launch of its new range of external hard disk drives: PX-PH120US, PX-PH160US and PX-PH250US. The digits in these product models refer to the disk capacity in gigabytes. In addition to a USB interface, users benefit from an eSATA (external Serial ATA) connection to boost the speed of these external drives. They are still as small and lightweight as the highly successful range of previous PX-PH08U2, PX-PH12U2 and PX-PH16U2 hard disks.

Speeding up innovation

PCs are generally fitted with a Serial ATA interface to connect their internal hard disk drives to the motherboard. We are now extending this connection to external hard disks to deliver the same performance as with internal hard disks. Rudy De Meirsman, Sales & Marketing Manager for Plextor Europe, gives the details: “Hard disks using the USB 2.0 interface typically operate at 33 Mb a second. With the eSATA interface, we can reach speeds of 200 Mb a second. As users are becoming far more mobile, they need a larger capacity external disk so they can carry their office without their PC. I’m convinced this is the way forward!”

These new units are perfect for so-called heavy files, whether they contain encrypted data, text or even high definition digital photos, music or videos.

Best of both worlds

Although Plextor is proud to be innovative, it still operates with the current market standard – the USB connection. Not only is this the most widely-known device of its kind, but unlike eSATA it is the hot-pluggable solution. This means that our new range allows most users to keep to their USB habits, while early adopters can benefit from the latest eSATA technology. This makes for a highly attractive double whammy!

Portable and high performance

The great advantage of external hard disk drives is, of course, that they can be connected to any PC. But they have to be really portable, not just transportable. Every unit in the new Plextor range can be easily slipped into a travel bag, brief case, or even trouser pocket. We have designed the size and weight especially for mobile users. And the stylish brushed aluminium frame comes with a special protective cover. Access security is assured by our proprietary software, PlexTools Professional LE, which protects the hard disk with a password. Whether professionals or amateurs, all users will enjoy this attractive new nugget of high technology.

Warranty and availability

The hard disk drives are covered by Plextor's well known Fast Warranty Service. (2-year warranty in the EU, Norway and Switzerland (Collect & Return); other countries 1-year carry-in).

They will be available from end of November 2007 at Plextor's network of dealers.

Plextor is dead. Their quality is no longer top notch and now you're just buying the name. Pioneer kicks their asses big time.
i totally agree, Duke.
Does Pioneer offer a software suite that checks the burn quality of the CD/DVD, something like Plextools had for Plextor?

TV
I think it comes with Nero.
When you buy a Plextor you just buy a rebadge product paying 3x plus than the original product.

Plextor isnt making any drives anymore... Consequently, I dont see much of a point in buying Plextor Produts...

Plextor is Dead.
