ProAction Media gives more info on Flex-Lite DVD

ProAction Media, the company that recently unveiled its lightweight Flex-Lite disc has announced a few more details about these discs and advantages over traditional DVD media.  According to the manufacturer, the lighter weight will save one up to $0.30 in shipping costs ($0.17 average) and the discs can be sent in a standard envelope or adhesive vinyl sleeve.  While a $0.17 average saving may not seem like much, it can mean a lot for any company that mails out 1,000's of discs to clients, not to mention the cost saving of using standard envelopes instead of rigid padded or cardstock envelopes.

In an aim for the company to show just how cheap and quick these discs are to produce, the company will match any competitor's price for disc replication as well as get the replication order done on time.  Otherwise the company promises to give the customer a free iPod shuffle if it fails to match any competitor’s price and will give the customer $100 for each day it is late with a CD or DVD replication order.  The cost saving in making the discs comes as result of using 50% less plastic and no bonders, unlike traditional DVD media.

It will be interesting to see whether this media actually catches on, although so far there is no mention about whether this media will be available as recordable blanks.  According to the company's website, the media is available in the standard DVD-5 capacity and a mini-DVD size with a 1.1GB capacity.  The Flex-Lite discs seem to be only available as part of bulk (1,000+) replication orders.
