RIAA Releases Mid-Year Anti-Piracy Statistics
WASHINGTON'“The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced today that its anti-piracy efforts in the first half of 2001 led to record arrests, illegal product seizures and guilty pleas and convictions. Of particular note, seizures of illegal compact disc-recordables (CD-Rs) increased significantly in comparison to CD-Rs seized in the first half of 2000. |
As everyone know, copies are widespread those days. Prime reason is the original discs are just to expensive. For example, in Guatemala, an original disc costs as much as 1 person can earn in about 2 weeks. A copy is working only 1 day... So if they put a little money aside every day, they can AND eat AND buy a CD a week, else they CAN'T eat for 2 weeks AND buy the same (original) disc.
Why such an 'improvement' in catching those copiers? Perhaps they pay more attention to it? Now they are pushed by the music (and other) industry to show some results? Who'll say it...
But ya know? It's 1 huge conspiracy! I tell you...

You know if they would stop spending all this $ on legal actions and lower the prices of CDs everyone would be happy. well maybe not the lawyers...

i haven't heard anything really big on the news on TV about piracy in a while. over a year now. no one cares.
if the riaa is catching more people, it's not because they are getting better at it but becuase there are more people to catch. there are a lot of pirate factories around where i live. i just brought home 7 gigabytes of divx. i paid $7 for it.
I don't think Guatemala is a particularly good example... if you can't afford an original CD from 2 weeks wages then how can you even feesibly afford a cd PLAYER!
