Just when we thought we were hearing the last of record companies using anti-piracy measures on audio CDs, apparently Frontiers Records is still one that is copy protecting its CDs, at least what it gives to reviewers prior to release. However, this time it is not the customers that are complaining, but the reviewers.
The Komodo Rock reviewer TheSpunkyLobster gave the album "Steve Lukather - Ever Changing Times" a rating of just 2.2 out of 10, a new record low for Komodo Rock. Any product rating given such a low score would be enough to put some off even reading the review, figuring it must be a terrible product so why why read about it. Well, apparently what came out of the reviewer's headphones is enough to put off anyone. Luckily for the artist, it was not the music that was at fault, but an anti-piracy Italian voice that revealed itself through all but two tracks of the album.
The reviewer described reviewing this album as like trying to review the Mona Lisa after a two year old covered in chocolate had crawled all over it. Sure, the music on the album may be great and has already heard many claim that the album is pretty darn good, but the reviewer can only review what it receives. Unfortunately for the record label, the reviewer was so annoyed trying to focus on the music with this voice spoken over that the album was given a mere 1/10 for its production, music quality, lyrics and overall, apart from the artwork, which was given a much better 7/10. However, the reviewer did claim that the two non-voiced over tracks were superb and hopes to one day receive a version that is "without 2 year old chocolate hand prints all over it".
