Seagate announces Barracuda 7200.11 hard drive
On a news published at Ars Technica, Seagate announced the new Barracuda 7200.11 hard drive, featuring 16-32MB of cache (a huge improvement compared to the 2MB-16MB on the older drives).

Interesting features are also a higher areal density (250GB vs. 188GB), and a lower dB rating and power consumption thanks to the drive's four-platter design.

A first look at this drive is available at Tech Report.

Pointless with SSD drives coming out Smilie All I want from a hard drive these days is large capacity and a slow rotation speed to keep it cool. SSD for the OS drive and maybe some big cool hard disks for storage.

Um, these drives have been out for awhile now....They're just a consumer version of the (now obsolete) Barracuda ES line. The Barracuda ES.2 is a better series with higher reliability, and is worth the couple extra dollars (literally!) premium that you pay over the consumer versions
