According to the HD Digital Radio Alliance we can speak of a new generation of HD radio programming after rolling out the HD2 and HD3 subchannels that play unsigned artists, give life to former over-the-air stations and offer "tightly niched HD channels", believes RadioINK.
Examples of subchannels that can be found in this 'second generation' are Bonneville's iChannel and Boston's Radio that offer a playground for those poor, unsigned artists. Analog channels that are now HD Ready are CBS Radio and New York's WNEW and 'tightly niched' channels are Boston's Old Skool Hip Hop, CBS Radio's Chick Rock in Dallas and AC WBEB/Philadelphia's 80's channel.
"We know from our research that if consumers hear content they can relate to in their market - and they can find it easily on HDRadio.com - the programming will inspire them to buy an HD Radio," said HD Digital Radio Alliance EVP Diane Warren to RadioINK. Currently the alliance works 24/7 to make a station guide that should help you finding the second generation.
