Sony BWU-100A Blu-ray Disc burner launched in Taiwan market
After being announced in Europe, according to Digitimes, Sony introduced its internal BWU-100A Blu-ray Disc (BD) burner to the Taiwan market at a recommended retail price of NT$33,000 (US$1,006 or €1,250).

Sony's device is the third BD burner model offered in the local market, following Pioneer BDR-101A and LG Electronics GBW-H10N that were launched during the last quarter, and prices are higher because of the short supply of Sony-developed BD pick-up heads, which are also used in the Sony PlayStation 3.

> higher because of the short supply of Sony-developed BD pick-up heads Typical Dutch explaination. Now the real explanation: the price is higher because people are willing to pay more.
