The BDP-S500 also has Dolby TrueHD decoding and Bit Stream Output for DTS-HD3, Dolby TrueHD audio signals via HDMI ver 1.3.
Both devices can also upscale your DVD's to 1080p that works with HDMI-equipped 1080p-capable HDTVs.
