Sony introduces 200 disc Blu-ray Jukebox

Obviously, someday you are going to have a lot of Blu-ray discs, or oops, HD-DVD disc? Anyway, Sony is aiming for Blu-ray and to make sure that you are able to put these discs in a safe envoirement, they have launched the Sony HES-V1000, which has 196 trays for 12 cm. discs and 4 trays for 8 cm. discs. Using the XMB-interface an user can select a movie and the changer will load the right disc in the reader.

The HES-V1000 has a height of 80cm. and has a 500 GB hard disk to store digital media. The Jukebox is able to stream the music wireless to other devices such as the Sony Playstation 3. As expected the content is protected with DRM. The Jukebox also contain a Blu-ray burner and on the back a large amount of input and output, like firewire, s-video, composite, HDMI and digital and anlogue audio outputs.

The HES-V1000 will become available in October at $3500, so if you really feel Blu-ray will win, this might be the right device for you!

PPeterVictory? You call this victory, master Obi-Van? clown The HD DVD and Blu-ray together achieved the 3% of movie sales. Even if BD sold more, this is not a victory. When High Definition sales will pump up to 15-20% of the movie market, then MAY BE we can talk about victory. Lets not forget that HD DVD will spread like hell, when second tier DVD manufacturers will switch their production lines to produce HD DVD. I expect big brands like Philips and others (who are backing up BD), to start a silent writable/re-writable HD DVD product lines and campaign in the background.

And for $3500 it can stream audio on a network but not video because of copy protection. Brilliant.
