Sony has launched its first single-layer 25GB Blu-ray media in the Asia Pacific, hitting the stores this month. This media features Sony's unique AccuCORE technology to protect the media to ensure reliable writing, protect the disc and make it more durable. These features include stable writing, half the susceptibility of warping from temperature than CDs and DVDs, 100x scratch resistance of standard discs, anti-static surface which loses half its charge in about 2 minutes, stain resistant coating and an archival life of ~30 years or longer.
The company also plans to launch 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray disc media in the 2nd half of the year. Both the write once BD-R and rewritable BD-RE media supports up to 2x write speed.

It is unclear what price this media will be priced at, however with more manufacturers announcing Blu-ray media, this will hopefully help with competition to bring down the prices sooner. However, with Blu-ray writers costing up to around $1,000, first these need to come down in price for consumers to even start considering getting a Blu-ray writer, never mind the media!
