With Blu-ray's success so far including the announcement of one million discs sold, it comes as no surprise that Sony is aiming to expand its Blu-ray production capacity. Now, Sony's Digital Audio Disc unit has just been given the go-ahead by the Terre Haute city council to invest $75.8 in its Indiana disc production facility to expand its Blu-ray production capacity.
At present, its three Blu-ray replication lines can output a maximum of 750,000 Blu-ray discs per month, but once the expansion and conversion has been complete, this will increase to 5 million Blu-ray discs per month, which includes single and dual layer discs. Part of this move will include the transfer of personnel from older lines over to the upcoming Blu-ray replication lines. This process will take place between May and October.
