Taiwanese disc makers conservative about the next-gen optical disc standard

Chairman Robert Wong of CMC Magnetics spoke about Blu-ray manufacturing and Taiwanese disc makers' conservative way of handling. Because of high royalty fees and equipment costs disc makers are turned off about the next-gen discs. This means that it will still take a while before Blu-ray reaches a mainstream position.

Wong spoke about the quick expansion of CD-R and DVD+R/-R production which led to a price drop. The chairman forecasts the same to happen to the next generation discs, but estimates that it will still take years before Blu-ray reaches a mainstream position.
