TorrentSpy ordered to pay $110 million

The MPAA along with Hollywood studios have made a major victory when a Los Angeles federal judge has ordered the file sharing website Torrent Spy to pay $110 million in damages for copyright infringement involving thousands of movies and TV shows.  This comes just weeks after the website shut itself down on March 24th.

The court has also issued a permanent injunction that prohibits the defendant, including its parent company Valence Media from carrying out any further copyright infringement of any of the studios' copyrighted works by any means.  TorrentSpy has already lost its previous case when the same court entered a default order, where TorrentSpy was found liable for copyright infringement as a result of it being found guilty of destroying evidence that would otherwise allow a fair trial.

This judgement also makes the judgement one of the largest fines ever issued for copyright infringement.  In the ruling, the judge ordered TorrentSpy to pay $30,000 for each of the 3,699 infringements shown to the court, which amounts to the massive $110 million fine.  Its parent company Valence Media along with its owners have filed for bankruptcy.

I hope they go after these disgusting "public libraries" next. Imagine: Anyone can just go in, read a book FOR FREE, while the authors, illustrators (and most importantly, Publishers) get paid NOTHING.

Not to mention those revolting AM and FM radio stations, where you can hear music for free while the songwriters and artists get *nothing* from those doing the listening!

ZodI agree on your library analogy, but the radio think, they jam commercials down our throats to pay for the radio station and royalties, so we don't pay it for it directly, but indirectly by listening to the stupid things.. or you buy satellite radio and pay for it to be commercial free.

"FLASH !!! Satellite radio stations are NOT commercial free." I thought that this was their main selling point. So what's their story?
