Toshiba to begin shipping 1st slimline HD DVD rewriters
While there have been slimline Blu-ray disc writers available since the launch of Blu-ray, it is not until now that the first slimline HD DVD writer is set to be launched, the Toshiba SD-L912A. Toshiba showcased the drive at the Computex Taipei 2007, which on June 5th and plans to start shipping samples in July, targetted at the laptop market as an internal HD DVD/DVD/CD rewriter.
The drive features read and write support for single and double layer HD DVD-R and HD DVD-RW media. Write speed is 2x for single layer HD DVD-R and 1x for double layer HD DVD-R and single and double layer HD DVD-RW media. The drive also features CD-R/RW and DVD±R/RW/-RAM write support.

What about PC drives? How much are these things gonna cost? Can I get full 1920x1080 output to a hi-def screen once I burn a ripped HD DVD? Why is the sky blue? Who is my real daddy? Tune in tomorrow for another episode of "As My Stomach Turns".

According to a news item on www.WeddingVideoDoneRight.com, HD-DVD burners are currently shipping in Europe and UK.
