U-Tech Media starts producing pre-recorded HD DVD discs

Taiwan's largest maker of pre-recorded discs, U-Tech Media is set to start taking on orders for pre-recorded HD DVD discs after successfully developing and producing pre-recorded HD DVD discs, according to this DigiTimes report.  These samples are currently being certified by its potential customers.  They initially plan to secure orders from consumer electronics vendors, where the discs would be bundled with their HD DVD products.

U-Tech will then aim to compete for OEM orders from Hollywood studios later on when there is sufficient demand for HD disc products.  At present, while the top 8 Hollywood studios and some independent movie makers have only a few OEM makers, they are not expected to take on new makers for a while.  U-Tech is also cooperating with its parent company Ritek to also produce pre-recorded Blu-ray Discs, with production possible by the first have of this year.

Dolphinius_RexI love how the part quoted from the original article, leaves out this tiny little tidbit of news... "Sony DADC has three production lines with a monthly capacity of 750,000 pre-recorded HD DVD discs" Between some no name manufacturer starting HD DVD production, and the news that *SONY* already has production lines, I wonder which is the biggest news?? clown
