Universal continues to support HD DVD

After this year's CES there were many rumors. Every studio was either leaving or staying and rumors continued. Now Universal officially states its continuing support for HD DVD.

Ken Graffeo states that not one rumor was substantiated and that nobody ever talked to Universal. To conclude his announcement Graffeo stated that Universal has planned a lot of other things.

We can now say that Universal will continue to support HD DVD... When will the next rumor come by?

It will be started by the Blu-Ray camp next time they want to drum up support.

SciFerIt just takes a bit more time for Universal to realize that their sales won't be as good as they should be due to lost sales (from potential blue-ray sales) and from people like me (who owns an HD-DVD xbox 360) that will now refuse to buy HD-DVD in order to help end this war (because as most of us truly believe the war is about over and why would one keep buying movies on a soon to be dead format).

johnzapDoesn't matter. HD-DVD is dead or about to become dead. It's just a matter of time, maybe just a little bit of time, for Universal to drop HD-DVD support. According to this article ( http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=10452 ), after Warner decision to go Blu-Ray only, hardware HD player sales (not counting PS3 or Xbox 360 HD-DVD addon) were: Blu-Ray - 93% HD-DVD - 7% Note that, on the previous week, HD-DVD player sales had been 49%. Warner decision truly ended this, so called, format war. Software sales, for the same period: Blu-Ray - 85% HD-DVD - 15% Hard luck for you HD-DVD early adopters, maybe if it upscales DVD well, you'll not lose all your investment. But for HD you'll have to look elsewhere...

FidelCI'm yet to come across a person in a big box store browsing through HD titles, let alone interested in the hardware. Here in Canada HD DVD player made by Venturer (walmart) is gathering dust and kids play hide and seek around a big sony Blu display and other customers crash their buggies into it. Most folks in "electronics" look for a bigger flat panel for less while teenage crowds swipe out cell phones and stick to photo kiosks. Nobody knows that DVD needs (?) to be replaced..
