Upscaling Super Multi Drive from Buffalo

Buffalo has announced an external USB 2.0 upscaling Super-Multi DVD Drive. The model which goes by the name DSM-SL20U2 is able to upscale DVD movies (480p) to High Definition (HD) at 1080p.

Besides playback of DVD movies it has LabelFlash support and is also able to write to recordable discs: it can burn DVD-R/+R discs at 20x, DVD-RW at 6x, DVD+RW at 8x and DVD-RAM at 12x. The DSM-SL20U2 will be available at the end of August for about 85€ in Japan.

Cool! This is a new idea (afaik) and a great way to market an external drive for a home theater. Go Buffalo! Now all we need is a review....

Sorry Crabby, but I don't really see the value in this product. You can get DVD 1080p upsamplers now at that price (or less). The only difference here is that it takes up a bit less space. What we need is that form factor (just a bit bigger) that accepts thumb drives and an internal 3.5" SATA drive (up to at least 1TB). It needs to play MPEG4 and h264/x264 videos. I'd be willing to pay up to $400 to buy that kind of a product.
