Lycos is offering their ad-supported Lycos Cinema online video community for a while now. Yesterday the internet-based company announced a video on demand rental solution that will be added to their existing video community. This service will allow users to enjoy premium rentals, free VoD ad-supported film and television titles.
"Our experience shows us that while film and TV fans welcome the increasing availability to view premium content online, they also desire the social interaction that is inherent in today's web as part of their viewing experience," said Chuck Ball, the VP of sales and marketing for Lycos to WorldScreen.com. On Lycos Cinema you can watch movies in different screening rooms where you can enjoy the titles together. Besides hanging around at one of these screening rooms, you can choose if this is viewed in full-screen or mini-screen modes.
Lycos' relaunch of its movie service will be done together with IndependentFeatures.com. This webiste has organised a film festival which will take place in July and twenty-one movies will be exclusively available on Lycos Cinema.
