Watching TV on your PlayStation

Besides being a gaming console, playground and a Blu-ray player, the Playstation 3 will now also be 'TV' with PlayTV. PlayTV is a new device that allows you to watch digital TV on your Playstation 3. A USB tuner delivers the streamed free-to-air digital programming, but with PlayTV you can also record the video content.

It's good that all Playstation 3 models are compatible, but the device will take more space than PC-based model, says GameSpot. "About the size of a Nintendo DS handheld." It's no problem if you want to use your controller to navigate through the channels, but it might be better to use a traditional remote control. Besides viewing TV on a PS3, it's also possible to do the same on a PSP locally via wireless or anywhere with a Wi-fi connection.

Seeing is believing with this thing. Sony said it would be available here in NZ in April. Still no word yet..
