Did you read
the official announcement by Western Digital about the new VelociRaptor hard disk? If you are curious to read more about this amazing drive, Hot Hardware published today a review of this little monster.
The main visive feature of this drive is that it is a 2.5" drive installed on a 3.5" heatsink, but actually there is much more in this little puppy. Compared to the previous Raptor series, the new drive is a bit faster about access (both read and write) times and transfer rates.
An annoying feature of the previous series is the high-pitched whine generated by platters rotation, and according to the reviewer this has been eliminated in the new VelociRaptor. I wonder if this is due to the smaller size of platters...
Another very interesting feature of the new drive is the low power consumption. More details about the performance can be read in
the complete review.
