While the early news on Zune was well known regarding the "Plays for Sure failure," this article brings a unique user perspective to the table, one that may seem more akin to a mocking or jesting "David Letterman's Top 10," albeit regarding Zune. However, the tone behind the reasons leaves any sense of 'poking fun at' in the dust, as people who want to inform themselves about this product would be well-served to read this article.
Among the highlights: the marketing slogan for the Zune is "Dude, you're getting a Zune," an obvious throwback to (as Rupert Goodwins noted) the "Dude, you're getting a Dell" catch phrase, used by a very moronic-looking, blonde-haired guy. Based on solely this alone, I cannot think of a worse idea--to associate a device Microsoft should want to make appear as 'hip'--to something so idiotic as Dell's once clueless-sounding announcer, something still in the collective consciousness of U.S. consumers. Even looking past that, if Dell wanted to, I'm sure it could sue Microsoft based solely on something so blatantly plagiaristic (but under copyright infringement of course, provided Dell didn't give some kind of permission to MS to use it). Another 'notable' is the poorly designed Zune homepage. And based on just these two points, it sure makes it sound as if the Zune were rushed onto the market without much any measurable creative development at all, solely in hopes that it would make money for MS regardless of its proper lack of development.
There are still plenty shortcomings the article indicates, so if any reader desires to sound off, feel free to do so--albeit within the bounds of our reaction policy. Certainly, if you can add more reasons to why the Zune is a bad idea, be sure to include them in your reaction.
