Will the Olympics give a boost to TV companies?

After oversupplying the market during the World Cup in 2006, Asian companies are now less positive about sales during this year's Olympics in Beijing. Asian electronics companies hope that millions of Chinese will buy televisions, but this time they are not expecting anything.

A research firm, called Display Search, expects shipments of LCD televisions in China to jump 70 percent this year to nearly 15 million units. Plasma screens are expected to double, but those that are hoping for a jump of sales before the Games will probably be disappointed.

U.S. demand is expected to drop in the near future and Intel says that Olympics might boost a little, but won't change market fundamentals. Companies must make sure that there Intel is correct, because a shortage of supply or oversupply will both be disappointing and dangerous.
