Will the Super Bowl help HD DVD?

According to the Financial Times Paramount is poised to drop its support for HD DVD. Last August Paramount Studios and Dreamworks both announced a possible switch to the HD DVD camp. Backthen the idea was to exclusively support HD DVD and bring Toshiba's format the victory.

After a bad CES and switch from Warner to the Blu-ray camp everything seems to change. Home Cinema Choice opens with a shocking article in January: 'Paramount to make Blu-ray U-turn'. This could be true and with Paramount already announcing that they have a clause built in their contract with Toshiba the first signs of defection are showing. Paramount could leave Toshiba, because Warner did the same. What will happen and are these rumors substantiated?

As many already said on their blogs: 'Sony wins, but the consumer loses'. If Toshiba could bring this over to the people through a marketing campaign then everything could still change... But what to do about hardware partners like Onkyo who are maybe leaving the format. Personally I think HD DVD should stop dropping its prices, bring back its relationships and come with a message like some have on their blogs.

Not so long ago we had the possibility to enjoy HD DVD's expensive commercial. Is their anyone that made a purchase after this? Shouldn't they change their message? If their are people saying that the consumer is losing, since Sony is winning, isn't that the message they should bring?

FidelC..still there is a good point made. If toshiba does an apple-pc type of ads, they can easily come up with a few pointers how HD-DVD is friendlier than Blu

Sony doesn't win anything, they just support Blu-Ray. If Blu-Ray wins, the consumer wins. If Toshiba would have won. The consumer would have lost, i couldn't even wipe my (_*_) in 15GB (or 30GB DL).

what do you need large optical media for that has spurious quality anyway (HD or BR). Hard drives and RAID are where it is at....the whole size thing for data BR and HD DVD is just a red herring....stop reading the glossies LOL!!!! puke

SpeedyJDK, Sony wins the royalties from everyone who releases anything blu ray. Is 45 GB or 51 GB enough for your *.* ?
