Xbox 360 HD DVD 1st look & upcoming UK launch

According to Gaming Bits, anyone who is looking to go for a HD DVD player and currently has an Xbox 360 console would be worth checking out the Xbox 360's HD DVD add-on to start with.  For a start, the HD DVD player add-on costs $199, working out under half the cost of a typical full size HD DVD player's pricing and is also very sleek.  In fact, the Xbox 360 and HD DVD player together would not take up the space of even any of the standalone HD DVD players currently available, which means those who are looking for a HD DVD player, but don’t have the space for Toshiba’s beast, may be better off looking at the option of buying an Xbox 360 and HD DVD add-on accessory together instead, at least if they don't want to wait until slimmer HD DVD players reach the market.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on package includes an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote control with batteries, an installation disc to set the console up with the player and the King Kong movie on HD DVD.  Going by the article, the author mentioned that it is very straight forward to set up and there is a considerable difference in the picture quality, even on a 30” Widescreen High Definition CRT.

Microsoft has also announced that its Xbox 360 HD DVD player add-on will be launched in the UK on December 1st, with a recommended retail price of £129.99.  Like the US launch, this will also include a copy of the King Kong movie on HD DVD.

heffequePeople may not like it but... Microsoft seems to be doing things right (since the player works in Windows Xp and Vista without the XBox 360) and Sony not that great :-/ Too bad for Sony and it's rookit, exploding batteries, etc Smilie

I think both hddvd and bluray will do very well....because for one, people will always be watching movies, whether it's in their computer or in their living room...It's just a matter of adopting it....I'll never get one until I have a hidef TV to compliment it....

Forget about it. Without HDMI, this thing is obsolete before the shrink wrap comes off!

MS is smart but i still doubt HD DVD, or Blue-ray for that matter, is really going to go anywhere. Not much push that i can see from retailers and the movie industry. I keep thinking back to the SA CD and DVD Audio. Great idea, but most ppl don't seem to really care when DVD is still a perfectly viable format, and even THAT is starting to top off these days
