Those of you living in the United States are probably familiar with the Netflix service. You rent a DVD which you pick from the Netflix website, they'll send it to you by postal mail and once you're done you send it back. While in Europe there are also more and more services like this, there is not really a big innovative player like Netflix (yet).
Still, mailing is a lot of hassle if you think that movies can easily be transferred over the internet and this is just where Netflix is heading to. Earlier they already announced that they will offer streaming movie downloads on several devices, now they have announced that Netflix will become available on Xbox Live.
You will be able to stream movies of Xbox Live and people with Xbox Live and Netflix accounts will also be able to share downloaded videos via the Internet to watch them together, yes when you're both in different places, at no extra cost.
Of course streaming movies over the internet is the most hassle free way of watching the movies you want, if you have a broadband connection that's fast enough. For those who don't have a speedy connection, Xbox Live also offers the ability to maintain your queue of DVD's you want and which should be send to you by postal mail.
It doesn't say if the available movies will be the same crappy ones that you currently get with Netflix "Watch Instantly", or if not, whether or not they will be available in HD format. Currently, you can download HD movies via XBox Live. If you can download any movie available in HD from Netflix, then this might be something. Otherwise, it's more flotsam and jetsam.
Hmmmz, looks like this is available already for free if you have an Xbox and Vista home premium or Ultimate...with no fee for Xbox Live! Via LifeHacker
