Positives And Negatives:
While using this program a number of points both positive and negative came up. These are listed below for easy reference.
Positives:
- Very Simple To Use
- Very High Quality Output
- Variable compression rates for titles on one DVD
- Many individual settings
Negatives:
- No possibility to span a DL DVD-ROM over two single layer DVDs
- Relative expensive compared to other DVD-movie backup solutions
Conclusion:
As you can see above, we haven't found much negative to say. 1Click DVD Copy pro is indeed a very easy to use and powerful program which combines many interesting and useful features with an easy to use and simple user interface. It's well chosen predefined and the possible individual settings, especially the possibility of different compression rates for different TitleSets, make this program powerful and of interest for both, DVD copying newbies and experts.
The program worked well, as fast as comparable programs, the output was always of very high quality and the backed up movies played back without any problems.
Only the relative high price of the program (US $99), even when it's compensated a bit with the bundled VSO CopytoDVD software and the missing feature to split DVDs are negative points to add.
We decided to ask the developer regarding the negative points which came up. See the questions and their answers below.
Comparable software can be bought for less than the half of the price of 1Click DVD Copy Pro and you can get complete CD/DVD burning suits for a similar price. So, why is 1Click DVD Copy on such a high price level?
I'm aware our products are more expensive than some others in the market. There are several reasons for this:
1) Support: We provide support for our software that no other seller can compare with. We answer all email, whether it's from a trial user (of which we've had more than 2 million downloads) or from registered users. We don't answer with one sentence replies that are either in broken English or simply out of context with regard to the original question. We provide detailed information and we work with the customer until the problem is resolved. We spend the time required to replicate problems (that may mean purchasing DVD movies, DVD burners, media, hardware or in some cases even computers.) We pay our support staff well to ensure we get and keep the most knowledgeable people. All of this costs a lot of money to do properly.
2) License Fees: We must pay license fees for transcoding and burning. We license the best burning engine on the market, VSO's burn engine. Based on their statistics gathering, we know we now have the highest percent of burn success in the industry, even Nero does not have this success rate, despite their market share. Our transcoding engine is also one of the best, if not the best on the market. I can think of only one defunct app which was as good and that was DVD2One.
3) Marketing: I'm sure you are aware, a pair of Nike running shoes does not cost $150 USD to make. They are often made in places like Venezuala for about $5, but Nike spends hundreds of millions of dollars to market their product. We too spend an enormous amount of money on marketing. Without spending this money, we couldn't reach so many people to tell them about our products. We have to work a little harder than some competitors that set up shop in China or Taiwan and can break U.S. law selling a product with a decrypter included, as well as paying no license fees to anyone.
4) Power/Ease of use: There may be other products with similar capabilities, but we've done our research and most are not as simple to use. In almost every case, you can copy a movie with a single click, but at the same time you have complete control over the content and compression if you wish to do so. There are several features which are not apparent when comparing with other products. For example, we remove redundant audio streams with our presets, which other apps often overlook. Redundancy is more than just AC3 and DTS of the same language, it can also be 2ch and 6ch AC3 in the same language. By removing redundant audio streams and audio languages, we save precious space for the video which ensures the highest quality. We use a few other techniques to improve quality that I cannot disclose for the purpose of your review (I don't want the competition to have the heads up on everything our product does).
5) CopyToDVD: We provide CopyToDVD as a free bonus. It may be a free bonus, but the software is far from fee for us. VSO charges us for each CopyToDVD application we bundle and it's not cheap. We think this is a logical bundle since the burn engines are both from the same vendor, which ensures compatibility.
6) Updates: Our software is updated on a regular basis to ensure it can effectively copy DVDs released in the past, present and future. New DVD releases are often purposely authored in a such a way as to make them difficult to copy. Much like an anti-virus software, constant updates are required to deal with new challenges. There is an 'Auto-Update" feature in 1CLICK DVD COPY ' PRO, which notifies you of a new release when you launch the software. You'll find some less scrupulous companies still selling outdated software which is based on code that hasn't been updated for more than a year and cannot cope with many new DVD movie releases.
The program offers many possible ways to create movie backups but it's not possible to make a two disc DVD-5 backup of a DVD-9 movie. Are there any plans to include such a feature in the future?
Our market research revealed that less than 10% of consumers were interested in splitting a DVD. It's a question of convenience that they can have a single disc. The other factor was just plain lack of knowledge about DVD media. Many customers assume the blank media size is the same for both the original DVD and the recordable DVD; they don't understand why you would need to split a DVD anyway. As far as adding this feature in the future, it is planned and it will be introduced in the next major update of the software.
To sum it all up, this is what we would say: 'Overall a good working and very easy to use program which offers some really nice features, making it of interest for both beginners and advanced users".
Based on our tests and experiences during this review ' we give 1Click DVD copy Pro the CDFreaks Safe Buy award.
