DVD+R DL/ R DL Writing performance

DVD+R Double Layer writing speed and compatibility:

The ASUS DRW-1608P2 supports the DVD+R DL standard for writing Double Layer discs with a size around 8.5 GB at a writing speed of 8x. Let us first take a look at the media's we will use:

Let's find the manufacturer and media information too, for this we will use Nero CD-DVD Speed:

This Verbatim media is manufactured by Mitsubishi Kagaku Media. Thanks to Verbatim (USA) for sending us this media.

Testing procedure: We created a DVD ISO image from a pre-authored DVD-Video compliant file set, with a total on-disc size of around 8000 MB. We then wrote this image using Nero CD-DVD Speed to the media. Below is the result:

Nero reported a successful burn with the Verbatim media in 18 minutes and 21 seconds. Let us take a look at the K-Probe result:

The result is very good considering this 2.4x certified media was written at 8x. The Asus drive reads the Verbatim Double Layer Media without any problems.

We only have 2 standalone DVD-Players available to test the DVD+R DL media and the DVD-R DL media:

         Koss DVP2161

FAILED

Plays the first layer but freezes at the layer-break

Our tests went nice except for Verbatim DVD-R DL in one of our standalone player Koss DVP2161, but as we know the DVD-R DL format has inferior compatibility compared to DVD+R DL.

Summary: Very good quality on DVD+R DL/-R DL and DVD standalone compatibility results, for the DVD+R DL media.
