Reading Performance

Reading performance:

For these tests we will use Nero CD-DVD Speed to read various CD and DVD's, including audio discs and DVD-media.

Pressed discs:

For this test we used a pressed CD-ROM disc containing Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk Ver. 9.0. The capacity is close to 74 minutes long. Below you will see the produced result.

CD-Recordable Discs:

For this test, we used a Verbatim 48X certified CD-R disc manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemicals Corporation.

 CD-Rewritable discs:

This time we used a Verbatim Ultra Speed+ (32X) CD-RW disc made by Mitsubishi Chemicals Corporation.

The drive is locked at 40x while reading CD-RWs

Audio CD:

We used Nero CD-DVD Speed to measure the transfer rate. The audio disc we used is approximately 74 minutes long.

The drive is locked at 24x while reading Audio-CDs. Most other drives can read Audio CD's at much higher speeds.

DVD reading performance:

Again, we will use Nero CD-DVD Speed to measure the reading performance, this time for various types of DVD discs. The drive should read pressed single layer DVD-discs at 16X.

DVD - DVD-Video:

For our DVD reading performance tests we are going to start with a single and dual layered DVD video discs. While only 1X speed is required to watch DVD movies, it's useful to be able to read the discs at higher speeds if you're going to extract (rip) the content of the disc to your hard drive.

DVD-Video Single Layer

DVD-Video Double Layer

As we can see, it reads DVD-Video Single layer at 16x and DVD-Video Double layer at 12x.

DVD - DVD+R/RW:

For this test, we used one DVD+R and one DVD+RW with about 4.4Gb of data. Below are the results:

DVD+R

DVD+RW

DVD - DVD-R/RW:

For this test, we used one DVD-R disc and one DVD-RW disc filled with about 4.4Gb of data. Our test results are found below:

DVD-R

DVD-RW

DVD - DVD+R DL:

For this test, we used one MKM001 DVD+R DL disc and the result can be found below:

Recordable DL discs are read at 12x maximum.

DVD - DVD-R DL:

For this test, we used one MKM01RD30 DVD-R DL disc and the result can be found below:

Reading Performance Summary: Overall, the reading performance looks very good, although we would like to see faster speeds when reading Audio CD and CD-RW media.

I dont know. First a Matsushita chipset in the DQ60 and now a Panasonic in the 1670?
Like the saying goes, "If it aint broke dont fix it"!:c
Those Maxell +R16X media are trash!!

Neither my Benq or Plextor 716 can burn them..:S

So the problem is the media itself...

Can wait for those babies burning on the forum!:*
the max write speed for -r9 is 6x, on the first site it says 4x. also it looks lik the 1633s produces the pif spikes in some scans, a newer firmware would be nice.
overall a nice drive, but it's too early to make any conclusion.
What about Quality Scans? It was a nice bonus for BenQ users.
:)
Will all new BenQ drives be using a Panasonic chipset or will Philips eventually produce a new Nexperia chip that can support DVD-RAM?
very nice,mhhh panasonic in - dvd-ram burns out,nice,also "Auto BookType to DVD-ROM".
All in all for now B+
When should we expect the drive to be released? Anytime before Summer? Maybe earlier?
I didn't use any Maxell +R16x media in this preview. The only Maxell media I used was the 5x DVD-RAM.

Unknown at this time. Many have speculated that Philips might be against supporting the DVD-RAM format.
I would make a guess and say late April or early March. Of course this may vary depending on your location.
Same company mate. Matsushita is the parent of Panasonic, National, Technics.
i hope this will be out soon! When will we see a full review?:B
No 18x or 20x? ;)
