Program Run Through

Now your CD Freaks Review Team will guide you through this program and demonstrate its features to you.

This it the first screen that you will come to when you load up the program.

Once you select “Start” you will be presented with the individual work projects available to you with this program.  As you can see, the “Burning Program” has a lot to offer.

Let’s take a closer look at most of these projects starting with:

Data Disc

The procedures for creating both a Data CD or DVD are virtually the same; we will demonstrate the steps for a DATA CD for this review.

Once we “double click” on the CheetahDVD Burner icon the program will open with this window:

Click on the “Start” Icon and the “Projects” window opens

Since we are going to burn a Data Disc we selected the appropriate icon and clicked OK.

In the next window we have selected a file name for our Disc as well as the burner to use and the speed to write at:

Once the above selections were made we then selected the files and folders to burn and added them to the project by “Drag & Drop” as shown here:

Now that we have the project set up we will select “Burn Disc” to begin our write:

The burn process begins virtually immediately and you will see this window during the burn:

Once the burn is completed the main program window will automatically reappear:

We then re-inserted the completed disc to check the results in Windows Explorer:

As you can see the disc is readable on our test system.

Blu-Ray Disc

We will put CheetahDVD Burner to the test on its Blu-Ray ability also:

To write a Blu-Ray media click on the “Data Disc” icon in the projects window and click OK. We are using Panasonic SW-5582 Blu-ray Burner for our test.

We then setup our compilation using drag and drop method.

Once the files and folders have been added to the project we clicked on the Burn Disc icon and the write started and when finished we were taken to the completion window.

To ensure that our burn was successful we opened the drive in windows explorer.

We are now satisfied that CheetahDVD Burner will write to Blu-Ray media as advertised.

Moving along; let’s take a look at creating a Video DVD next…….

Video DVD

The DVD-Video format is used in regular DVD movies you might buy off the shelf. A DVD-Video disc contains special files that store the video and audio data. These files (called VOB files) usually contain video in the MPEG-2 format and audio in the AC3 format. DVD-Videos can be played on standalone DVD players as well as computers with DVD-ROM drives (provided that you have DVD playback software).

We created a new DVD-Video layout by clicking the Video Icon of the Programs main window and selected the DVD Video_TS option.

Once again this opens up the window to setup the burn

Once we selected our Drive and write speed we add our Audio_TS and Video_TS folders:

Now that we have set up or compilation we selected the “Burn Disc” Icon and the burn immediately started.

This Video Disc was burned at 20X speed and once finished we were taken back to the main program window.

We played the Disc back on our test system as well as our stand-alone players without any problems; the movie played perfectly in both tests.

Note:  We would like to see the addition of a log file with times so that we can measure the actual write times.

So far we are pleased with the results on both Data and DVD-Video discs so lets move along and see how the CheetahDVD Burner works with burning MP3 discs………

MP3 Disc

MP3 Disc is a term used to refer to compact discs (CD-R or CD-RW) that contain MP3 files.  MP3 Discs may also be burned to DVD+R.  These discs are burned in data mode.  MP3 CDs are supported by several modern CD players; these players, for the most part, are also capable of playing wma and Vorbis files.

The procedures for creating Audio, MP3 and WMA CD(s) are virtually the same; we will demonstrate the creation of an MP3 CD for this review

After opening up CheetahDVD Burner; selecting “Start” we then select “MP3 Disc” and set up our compilation.

Next we added our folders containing our MP3s

Clicked on “Burn Disc” and the burn process begins

Once the write finishes we get the completion window

Our test disc played back flawlessly on our stand-alone CD player; in our auto and on the Harman Kardon Stereo player on our Harley Davidson Electra Glide touring bike, sweet.

Let’s take a look at how CheetahDVD Burner handles ISO files……

ISO files

An ISO image is a disc image of an ISO 9660 file system.  You might ask why create an ISO, well better performance is achieved by running an ISO since there is no waiting for the drive to be ready and the hard drive I/O speed is many times faster than the CD/DVD drive.  This coupled with the ability to avoid disc failure (shattering) which can be expensive considering the cost of the ODD and the media.

Let’s now get into the creation and burning process for ISO(s)….

Create ISO

We created an ISO Image from a pressed CD, with a total on disc size of 641.13MB.  Here are the screen captures of this part of the testing:

After selecting “Create ISO” we are presented with a “Hint” as seen here:

Noting these instructions we clicked OK and proceeded

As you can see we used the Drag and Drop method of adding to our ISO compilation and then clicked on the Burn icon on the tool bar and the creation process starts.

Once the saving of our ISO has completed we are taken back to the main program window.

The creation of an ISO is pretty straight forward and easily accomplished.

Now that we have created an ISO, let’s move ahead and give CheetahDVD Burner a trial at burning our ISO.

Burn an ISO

As mentioned above we used the ISO file that we created as noted to test CheetahDVD Burner’s ability to write this ISO to our test CD-R media.  We have provided the screen captures of this process here:

In the projects window we selected Burn ISO and then clicked OK.

As you can see we selected our Lite-On CDRW and used the Drag and Drop to set up this burn; once setup we clicked on the Burn icon located on the toolbar and the Burn process started.

As the burning completes we are once again taken to the main program window.

We then used Windows Explorer to check the disc to ensure the ISO was burned and recognized by the Operating System.

We now know that CheetahDVD Burner will burn a Data ISO; lets test it with an ISO of a pre-authored DVD-Video compliant file set with a total on disc size of nearly 8GB.

After opening CheetahDVD Burner we selected “Burn Disc from ISO” option from the drop-down menu under “File” as shown here:

Once we selected the ISO (MI3) the burn process began

As with all of our tests so far; as soon as the burn completes we are back to the main program window

This test disc played nicely on our test system as well as our stand-alone players.

CheetahDVD Burner performed well and we found the process easy to follow for both creating and burning our data ISO as well as our DVD-Video ISO image.

Bin/Cue Burning

Another interesting feature of CheetahDVD Burner is the ease with which it burns Bin/Cue files. Let’s take a look at this feature now.

Once we have opened CheetahDVD Burner we will select “Burn Bin/Cue” and click OK.

Next we will make our Drive selection and browse for the location of our Bin/Cue file.

Once we had made our selections we clicked on the Burn Disc icon and the write process begins.

As we have now become to expect; once the write is finished we are again presented with the completion window.

Here again CheetahDVD Burner did just as we expected and burned our Bin/Cue file without any difficulties whatsoever.

Let’s put CheetahDVD Burner to the test on Copying discs….

Copy

In this section we are going to tackle is “Copy”.  The procedure for either CD or DVD is identical, for this review we used a previously authored DVD+R sized at 3.53GB.

After opening CheetahDVD Burner, we selected “Copy Data Disc” even though we are copying a Video Disc.

Once we have selected our project we are led to the next window for the copy process

Once we have selected our Source and Destination Drives we click on the Burn icon and the process starts

Above you see the Saving Image Process; once the image is saved to our default folder the burn process begins automatically

The burn process finishes and we again are presented with the main program window showing the burn has completed

Our test disc played perfectly in our stand-alones as well as on our test system.

thought it would be a bargin to purchase a Blu-ray burner for $25 until I realised it was software. Thanks for getting my hopes up.
:c
:)
How can you make a statement like "Easy on system resources" when you are testing on a PC with 4GB Ram & Core 2 Duo ....

How did you measure this?

This is not a typical system, and mainstream computers are approximately 2 years old .. and most likely single core, with 512MB Ram.
Certainly not C2D-6600 + 4GB ram.
you only get updates for 1 year!!!! gag me Blah
Thank you
Thankyou Kipper for this great review, I love this program it does on the fly burning and it creates a great .iso. ;)
This seems really cool I have to get it!
It's not a bad program - it actually is one of maybe 4 that are worth considering, however it is updated every 20 days or so and the new updates always "fix some bugs", so...
:g Excellent review. I had been looking for good burning software with different abilities and onversions. no its not like Roxio etc, but you know what, I had Roxio and the other and this fits my needs PLUS i don't WASTE disc anymore ith errors. It burns it right the first time! I like this software and I use it to burn my audio tracks after I track bounce them from Pro Tools. :g

Secondly, yes, he is no a standard pc. I've had Duo core in my house for 2 years now with only 1GIG Ram and I built all my towers. Its not expensive to have the best. So stop omplaining and go spend $90 on a motherboard cpu combo at your local computer store and built it. Its fun, cost effective and fast! (if you do, get a jumperless board).
