Tools and Extras

CheetahDVD Burner has several “Tools and Extras” we would like to highlight.  Among them that we will test are:

  • Erase Disc
  • AVI, WMV to DVD
  • Audio Converter

Let’s take a closer look at these features; The first tool we will look at is the “Erase Disc” tool:  We have the option for both the Quick and Full Erase features.

Erase Disc

Once we open CheetahDVD Burner, click on “Start”, we selected the “Erase Disc” option:

In the next window we made our selections for the erase function

After making our choices we then clicked on the Erase icon on the toolbar and the process started.

Using the “Quick Erase” option the process completed quickly and we were notified of the completion by this window:

There is not much that we can say regarding the “Erase Disc” function other than it works and it is there when needed.

Next we will be testing CheetahDVD Burner’s ability to convert movie files to DVD Format for burning as a Video DVD.

AVI, WMV to DVD

Before a Video can be burned as a Video DVD it must have the proper file structure. This structure includes two folders AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS and the required files for your home DVD player to show the movie. Then it should be burned onto a DVD-R disc some players will handle a DVD+R or a CD, but your best bet is a DVD-R.

This option will convert your AVI or WMA movie files to the required DVD format. Then you can burn it onto a disc, using the Video DVD option and view it on your home DVD player.

Here we open CheetahDVD Burner and select “AVI, WMA to DVD”.

In the next window we selected the file to be converted

Note 1: If you will be using more than one file for this conversion, all the files will be appended together when the conversion process is complete.

Note 2: A CD will work and play on most home DVD players; however, the sound quality will not be that good.  A DVD+R is highly recommended for a clear picture and crisp sound quality.

Once we clicked on “Convert” from the toolbar, we are asked to select the location to save our output DVD folder in.

Once the save location is made the Decoding and Creating begins.

This was a relatively quick process since we used only one file.

We then opened our “save to” folder and found our DVD compliant folder ready for burning to DVD.

To ensure that the process works, we then burned these DVD compliant files to DVD+R using the “Video DVD” option from our available projects.

The test disc played perfectly on our test system and stand-alone players.

Note:  We would like to note that this convert option is just that (convert) there is no options for adding chapters or menus.  However, if you are interested in merely converting your home movies or other captured video files to DVD, this is an easy and quick way to accomplish this task.

Audio Converter

This function allows us to convert audio files to MP3, MP2, WMA, OGG, and WAV formats.

For the purpose of this review we will be converting some of our archived MP3s to the WAV format and then testing the burning of an Audio CD with Cheetah.

After opening CheetahDVD Burner we will select the “Audio Converter” project.

Next we set up Cheetah to convert our MP3 files

After clicking on the Convert icon we are asked to pick our “save to” location.

The conversion starts as soon as we click on OK.

Upon completion of the conversion the main window returns announcing “completed Process”.

We then checked our “save to” location for the resulting files.

We have already tested CheetahDVD burner’s capabilities for burning an MP3 disc so we thought we would use the “Audio CD” project to burn these converted files to disc.

This test Disc played on our test system as well as our stand-alones.

Now that we have thoroughly tested CheetahDVD Burner, we will give you our conclusions.

thought it would be a bargin to purchase a Blu-ray burner for $25 until I realised it was software. Thanks for getting my hopes up.
:c
:)
How can you make a statement like "Easy on system resources" when you are testing on a PC with 4GB Ram & Core 2 Duo ....

How did you measure this?

This is not a typical system, and mainstream computers are approximately 2 years old .. and most likely single core, with 512MB Ram.
Certainly not C2D-6600 + 4GB ram.
you only get updates for 1 year!!!! gag me Blah
Thank you
Thankyou Kipper for this great review, I love this program it does on the fly burning and it creates a great .iso. ;)
This seems really cool I have to get it!
It's not a bad program - it actually is one of maybe 4 that are worth considering, however it is updated every 20 days or so and the new updates always "fix some bugs", so...
:g Excellent review. I had been looking for good burning software with different abilities and onversions. no its not like Roxio etc, but you know what, I had Roxio and the other and this fits my needs PLUS i don't WASTE disc anymore ith errors. It burns it right the first time! I like this software and I use it to burn my audio tracks after I track bounce them from Pro Tools. :g

Secondly, yes, he is no a standard pc. I've had Duo core in my house for 2 years now with only 1GIG Ram and I built all my towers. Its not expensive to have the best. So stop omplaining and go spend $90 on a motherboard cpu combo at your local computer store and built it. Its fun, cost effective and fast! (if you do, get a jumperless board).
