Preview: Lite-On SHW-1635S |
We at CDFreaks would like to present an exclusive 1st look at one of the latest DVD-Writer from Lite-On - the SHW-1635S.
The Lite-On SHW-1635S supports 16x DVD±R, 8x/6x DVD+RW/DVD-RW and 8x/4x DVD+R DL/DVD-R DL writing technology, allowing Double/Dual Layer discs of 8.5Gb to be written.
Drive specifications:

What's inside the box?
Below you will see the contents of the bulk bundle:

- Internal drive itself
- Quick Installation Guide
- Nero OEM Suite
- Dos Driver
- Nero Express 6.6
- InCD 4
- NeroVision Express 3
- Nero BackItUp
- MPEG-2 SVCD/DVD Plun-In
- DVD-ReWritable Drive Manual
- Acrobat Reader
- Cyberlink PowerDVD 5
- Analogue Audio Cable
- 4 mounting crews
Now it's time to take a look at the drive itself:

A typical Lite-On bezel, except it is missing the headphone connector and volume knob. It has an eject button, a LED (green - for read and write - we prefer a different LED colour though for writing), and an emergency eject hole. The logos located on the loading tray include a DVD Alliance DVD+R DL logo, a DVD-R/RW/R DL Forum logo, and a CD-RW Ultra Speed logo.

On top of the drive we found two stickers, and we can read it was manufactured in China, dated August 2005.

On the back of the drive there are from the left: undocumented pins; digital audio connector; analogue audio connector; pins and jumper to set the drive to cable select, slave or master; IDE connector, power connector.
Now, let us install the drive and check out the features on the next page…

It surely looks like CLV to me ... also the image says the same!
Very concerned about the dip during the 16x burns which results in a jump in jitter ... also overall high jitter, which usually mean poorly tuned writestrats and also lower disc lifetimes. Also - overall quality was shocking with some discs.
Wonder why you used a BenQ to scan? For speed only? I find BenQ tend to be less sensitive on some dyes (RICOHJPNR01 in my experience has less errors on BenQ than LiteOn) and heavily error on some others. Still trusting a LiteOn. Your efforts are appreciated a lot!
