Conclusion:
Since this media is
relatively fresh and new, it seems like this media could need some firmware
improvement on certain drives, like the NEC-ND4550A. Therefore, before we
speculate on this any further, we should wait and see what any new firmware
updates will show us.
All the successfully written Ricoh DVD+R DL 8x media was burned with the BookType DVD-ROM, and there were no problems reported during the playback on the PC-drives or standalone devices.

I Burn many 2,4X DL Ricoh, at 4X, with my Plextor 716A, and no problems...
