Conclusion:

Since this media is relatively fresh and new it seams to be very few DVD writers that support this Traxdata DVD-R DL 4x media.

The DVD-R DL format uses DVD-R as book-type and during our tests we could see that there are some read-back compatibility issues with some PC DVD-Writers. There are also some issues with the very poor compatibility with DVD Standalone devices.

At this time, it is unknown whether standalone devices compatibility issues could be corrected with a firmware update. Meaning, we need to see - what will happen in the future. At least the format is very new and we guess it will take some time for it to mature.

Does anyone know the pricing of these discs, are they available in bulk (like a 25-100 spindle)?

You used the NEC 3540a to read back the disc's, but why didn't you use it to write the media?
I have a NEC 3540a myself and would like to see how it performs with the DVD-R DL media.

The 3540A does not support writing on this media. I guess this is the reason.
